De mezzotinten van Caroline Koenders kunnen alleen op hun schoonheid en kracht beoordeeld worden wanneer je ze in het echt ziet. Op een reproductie gaat de intense fluwelen structuur en de krachtige uitdrukking verloren.
Met inspiratie, vitaliteit, creativiteit en overtuigend vakmanschap is ze in staat het licht uit het donker te tillen. Mezzotint is een techniek die omgekeerd werkt, je werkt van donker naar licht. Het beeld doemt op na een eindeloos schrapen en polijsten.
Hoewel haar meeste werk op groot formaat is, laat het subtiliteit en verfijning zien. Het werk oogt simpel, maar ze creëert een eigen wereld waar je in zou willen kruipen. Binnen de wereld van de grafiek neemt zij een unieke plaats in. Haar zeer eigen, en onmiddellijk herkenbare werk ontvangt de laatste jaren groeiende internationale aandacht.
Als grafica pur sang, deinst ze niet terug voor het zware werken aan de mezzotint en droge naald; vaak op groot formaat. Ze heeft traditionele oude technieken vernieuwd, zowel technisch als inhoudelijk. Deze grafische technieken vragen grote vaardigheid op ieder moment van het artistiek proces en alleen met absoluut vakmanschap kan dit monumentale werk zijn oogverblindend effect bereiken.
Het werk van Caroline Koenders ontving veel prijzen en is opgenomen in grote collecties en musea.
